Simon first discovered Taiko, amongst the snow capped peaks of Nagano-ken, Japan while working as a coordinator for International Exchange on the JET Program. This introduction to the world of Taiko sparked a passion that lead to a further 2 years of training, performances and travels across Japan to study and participate in community taiko festivals, workshops and concerts, before heading home to Hobart, Tasmania in 2002.  With great support from the locals, Simon was instrumental in the formation of 3 Taiko groups across the Island, and created a strong Taiko culture in Hobart, through school demonstrations, adult classes, major event performances and Taiko Concerts as Artistic Director of Taiko Drum. Simon relocated to Perth in 2012 and enjoyed family life before forming TAIKO ON in 2014 with a wonderful group of friends and musicians.  With great support from the Perth community, the Japanese in Perth community and the office of the Consul-General of WA Taiko On has thrived and is enjoying continued support from annual festival organisers and new clients every week
